This brief but moving and captivating story recounts the adventures imagined by Charlie Mears, a twenty-year-old bank employee with literary aspirations, whose motivation is to write what he believes will be the best story in the world. His account, full of veracity and all sorts of realistic details, may seem more like the memory of another life than the product of his fantasy, which captivates his friend, the narrator of the text, and incidentally the reader. The story reflects on writing, the value of art and the difficulty of managing to express accurately what only in the imagination of the creator seems perfect.
